We used plastic labware at our organic chemistry lab class. Is it alright to use plastic?

When we did synthesis of acetanilide at our organic chemistry lab class, we used a plastic beaker and pipet. Why did we use plastic labware? I also realized that many containers for cooking oil are made of plastic. Is there any possibility that the plastic can be dissolved into the oil?

We will answer as much of the question as we can:

The reason why plastic labware is used in organic chemistry lab class
Glass labware is usually used in labs. We suppose that teachers choose plastic labware because of safety considerations. Broken glassware might injure students. We think that there is no scientific reason for the choice of plastic labware.

Material
Since we do not produce beakers, we are not able to specify the material of the beaker you used. However, we think that it is probably an olefin resin, such as polyethylene and polypropylene. This type of resin is suitable for an organic solvent so that it is not dissolved in oil. However, since gas can go through the resin, the container sometimes changes shape if it is not thick.

If the container is thin and used for storing oil, the container usually has several layers, and polyethylene or polypropylene is used for the innermost layer.

Because there are so many kinds of organic solvents and oils, we cannot definitely refer to all of them. However, we can say that there should be no problem in using a plastic container for food oil.
